MEET APRIL’S FEATURED ARTIST, JAIMIE NAGLE

IT’S PERSONAL: POEMS & POTTERY FOR EVERYDAY USE

Join us for the art opening of Jaimie Nagle’s intricate collection of pottery and poems at Icky Love Art Loft & Gallery on April 12th, 2025 from 12am-2pm, followed by a poetry reading from 2pm-3pm.

About the artist:

Jaimie Nagle is a poet, ceramic artist, and the owner of the Icky Love Art Loft & Gallery. She received her MFA in Poetry at the University of Washington before moving to Honolulu to complete a PhD in Creative Writing and English Literature at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. Jaimie has lived in Ka‘a‘awa with her family for over a decade. She is inspired by ocean, the Ko‘olau mountains, and especially flora in the valley.

About the collection:

This body of work features special imagery on mugs and cups that speak to the relationship between utility and art, memory and place. Jaimie grew up half a mile from the Florida Everglades in an environment of brokenness and a feeling of not belonging. Poetry, and later pottery, saved her from the destructive forces in her life.

“I stuck my hand in the earth
and made a bowl instead of a cup
and made a cup instead of a plate
and made a plate that my daughter could eat from
and my son could break with his tiny hands
in the house my husband keeps digging
out of the mountain.
This one body, feeding all the bodies
still buried and the ones in bloom.”
— Jaimie Nagle
