Artist Julia Yuka is a former corporate professional turned abstract landscape and floral artist. Her work is influenced by the nature surrounding her home in Kailua, Hawai‘i and informed by her role as a mother. For Julia, inspiration is the everyday miracles that grow between sidewalk cracks and the towering ridges of the Ko’olau mountains. Her joyful paintings celebrate connection--connection with ourselves, with others, with our ‘āina, and those who came before--and convey possibility.
Julia’s mixed-media work not only evokes the beauty and textures of island life, it is an expression of movement and existence. Julia’s work captures the connections between human life and the natural environment through layering material: acrylics, paper, and language.
Join us for Julia’s opening reception of her show titled, “A Joyful Mess.” Light refreshments will be served.
