Kalei Raher was born and raised in San Francisco, California. At 17, she left for Oahu to attend University of Hawai’i at Manoa. As a mixed race girl she always felt in and out of worlds alternating from San Francisco to Hawai’i where her mom & extended family originated. Finally home, Kalei’s dreams were able to flourish. With her ancestral roots to guide her, she found purpose as an artist and storyteller.
Raher has shown her art in Paia, Maui at “Pau Gallery”; Kahuku, Honolulu, Oahu; Austin, Texas; and San Francisco, California. Her art, without bounds, reaches all parts of the world through her social media. She has a way with words and deep awareness for the world around and within her. Her raw expression plays with the heartstrings, a tune only nostalgia can remember. Focusing on surrealism, she blends contrasting digital and analogue collages made of imagery old and new. She is inspired by nature, relationships, and evolution. Raher believes everyone has a place at the table and a story to tell. She draws from her own experiences and current events to transport the viewer into her own world of magic.
